Benefits For Groups
Recently I was asked to do a couple of Team Development Events that had a degree of similarity between them.
Although one group was functioning well whilst the other group was struggling both team leaders mentioned that one individual was having a negative impact on the group.
So the question was 'how to develop the group as a whole without apportioning blame and causing greater upset?'
What I did was to give both groups some of the basic skills of assetiveness, whilst at the same time getting them to understand how groups develop and how they get stuck. By understanding the Tuckman group development model of 'Forming, storming, norming and performing' I got them to analyse where they are now, where they want to be and devise strategies to get them there.
'I do feel that as a team we are more settled. As from next week we will be fully staffed for the first time since I took over and I am hoping for a period of stability. The day was certainly appreciated by everyone. They were quite sceptical beforehand but I heard nothing but positive comments. We now have our mssion statement and rules up in every team and in my office. The person that I was most concernted about has admitted that it has made her think and that she does look at them and has tried to modify her behaviour, which has been a major breakthough!'

'I really enjoyed the training and found it useful and positive. I am aware that others felt the same. So thank you very much'
